Mary Cota Reed
Mary earned her B.A. in Anthropology at Emory University. Life after college included part-time roles at The Shepherd Center and 11Alive News, then as a full-time consultant at Accenture. She currently works part-time doing medical billing for Reed Imaging Services, a family business, while caring full-time for Catherine, her 8-year-old daughter who was born with profound medical needs. In addition to Catherine, she and her husband Rob have two older children, Cecilia and Charles, and currently live in Sandy Springs, GA.
Mary’s volunteer experience reflects a long history of support for youth programs and for the deaf/hard-of-hearing community. Among them are the Junior League of Atlanta, Georgia Chapter of the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf, the Georgia Commission for the Deaf or Hard of Hearing, the Funding and Policy subcommittee for Georgia Pathway to Language and Literacy. While raising Ceclia and Charles, Mary remained active in the community by serving as Youth Soccer coach, Treasurer for the local Girl Scout troop, and on the Atlanta Speech School PTC.
Now, as Chair of the Life House Atlanta Board, Mary devotes herself with a passion she has never experienced before. “LHA’s Board of Directors recognizes the urgent need for a pediatric respite house for children with profound medical needs, and we are united in our determination to see LHA become a reality. I am incredibly honored to be among this group of inspiring and selfless people and am prepared to do anything to help get LHA off the ground, including walking over hot coals with bare feet. The day LHA opens will be one of the happiest days of my life.”
